SEQUENCE

Installation collaboration by Veerle Michiels & Jonas Vansteenkiste
2015

Sequence’ reveals the forgotten historical, social and cultural  period of a house. Different objects &  architectural elements, artifacts are re-assembled in three huge blue metal racks. ‘ Sequence’ refers to the image sequence placed in this rack. The original purpose of the artefacts has been stripped of their anecdotal by the act of archiving. This creates space to add new significance, meanings to the objects. The architectural elements interact with one another and with the outside world. This is how this work activates our imagination to reconstruct the house or to trace the history of these artefacts. In the original order these objects would have been part of a house from the period of the industrial revolution, thus the elements can be seen as DNA parts of a house that has been brought into a new ‘sequence’.
